Purpose
The purpose of this course is to provide advanced job search/career development training and education to AmeriCorps Alumni members and AmeriCorps members. The course, delivered through a series of live classes and online forums, builds on AmeriCorps members’ commitment to their careers and individual talents and skills.
Curriculum- “The Truth Will Set You and Your Career Free“
Part 1 - Establishing a “personal brand” is critical on a micro level for successful job search and on a macro level for career development; as such, the core of this training is helping participating members gain a clear, concise understanding of their individual priorities, strengths and interests.
AmeriCorps Members embark on (and are guided through) a self-inventory process, enhanced through exercises and worksheets, the byproduct of which is authoring written “vision statements.” This vision statement acts as a personal constitution to guide each member in constructing key components of an effective, individualized job search. All based on ones “truths” these components include:
Developing an “Elevator Speech”
Constructing a compelling “Cover letter”
Developing an effective “Resume”
Building and implementing a powerful “Networking strategy”
Attaining a truth based “Interview strategy” and tactics
Follow-up strategy and tactics.
The concepts of the above components, once developed, are then practiced in a workshop/role-playing type of atmosphere.
AmeriCorps Alums/Members will gain the advantage of learning collaboratively from their peers in addition to the Barry’s instruction all the while developing tactics congruous with their individual vision and strategy.
